nPerf is one of the most popular mobile internet benchmark software that is widely used to measure the speed and quality of cellular networks around the world.
In this latest development, the company released the results of the fifth Internet service test of mobile operators in Indonesia and ranked them based on access speed.
The nPerf data comes from hundreds of thousands of tests conducted in the first half of 2018 in the country.
As a result, Smartfren mobile operators sit at the top with an average download speed of 13.94 Mbps. The second rank occupied Telkomsel with a speed of 6.27 Mbps.
According to nPerf data, the average download speed of Bolt and XL Axiata is in the range of 5 Mbps, while Hutchinson Tri (3) and Indosat Ooredoo at around 2 Mbps.
This download figure is the average obtained from all generations of mobile technology of each carrier, either 2G, 3G, or 4G.
"The download speed of Smartfren is up 45 percent compared to 2017. XL Axiata is up 24 percent, while Bolt and Telkomsel are down," said nPerf in a report entitled Barometer of Mobile Internet Connections in Indonesia.
In addition to recording the highest average download speeds, nPerf added that Smartfren also recorded the lowest average latency with a record of 68.98 ms making it ideal for online gaming activities.
For average upload speeds, Smartfren had to budge from Telkomsel which recorded 4.41 Mbps in first position, although the difference is not far with Smartfren in second place with 4.21 Mbps.
The 4G nPert connection ratio also records the 4G and 4G Plus network ratios of each carrier, by observing what percentage of the tests are done over the latest generation of cellular networks.
Bolt and Smartfren recorded 4G connection rate of nearly 100 percent, (above 99.9 percent). But this may be because the two mobile operators do not operate 2G or 3G networks anymore, but have already switched to 4G completely.
Smartfren President Director Merza Fachys said it was not providing mobile service that is lower than 4G. "Wherever and whenever, 99.9 percent Smartfren service is always 4G," said Merza in his written statement.
Tri recorded 4G connection rate of 73.35 percent in third, followed by XL with 69.90 percent.
Meanwhile, Telkomsel and Indosat each have 4G connection rate of 63.08 percent and 60.17 percent.
nPerf collects data from tests conducted by its users in Indonesia within six months, starting from 1 January 2018 to 30 June 2018. The number of test samples reached 319,552.
Of that number, most of the nPerf users in Indonesia run the test via Telkomsel network (37.79 percent), then Indosat 16.86 percent, XL 14.79 percent, Tri 11.88 percent, Bolt 9.56 percent, and Smartfren 9.12 percent.
Not mentioned from any location where hundreds of thousands of test data came from. But nPerf also describes the ranking of mobile operators in various other parameters in testing, including streaming test and browsing/
