Although some Android manufacturers have implemented system-wide searches on their devices, they are not part of the main operating system. This is the upcoming change with Android 12, as the pixel phone supports its beta 4 version, even if this feature has not been officially released. It seems that this work is still in progress because it seems incomplete.
Now, you can only access it through the search bar in the app drawer. The search widget on the home screen still uses the old search function. For the application drawer, a neat new option can make the keyboard look like every time you open the application drawer, you can start typing immediately to find what you are looking for.
This is a running system-wide search:
A system-wide search on the device can see the following: shortcuts (for apps and people), people (contacts and conversations with them), settings (including change and other controls) and indications. If you don't want each category to appear in the results, you can disable each category individually.
Google is obviously trying to add more search categories, but it doesn't seem ready for prime time. The function itself is not fair. Nonetheless, this is still something that iOS users have enjoyed for many years and will be a great addition to Android.
There is a way to enable system-wide search, although it only works for pixels with embedded pixels, and it needs the Magisk module developed by kdrag0n, which is available to the developer's Patreon followers.
